Werneth Primary Care Centre

Client: Community 1st Oldham

Location: Oldham

The Werneth Primary Care Centre was designed to work harmoniously with its challenging topography, addressing an eight-metre fall across the site. By stepping the building naturally with the slope, we reduced excavation and created clear, accessible routes while maintaining efficient internal circulation and generous daylight throughout.

A sensitive façade strategy helped the building sit comfortably within its neighbourhood context. We adopted a restrained palette of durable yet tactile materials, using articulated brickwork and complementary cladding to break down the massing and create a warm, welcoming civic presence.

Extensive community engagement was central to the project’s development. Through workshops and consultations with local residents and key stakeholders, we shaped the brief and refined design decisions, from public realm connections to the layout of arrival spaces, ensuring the Centre genuinely reflects the needs and identity of the community.
