Bodmin Treatment Centre
Client: Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
Location: Cornwall
The Bodmin Community Diagnostic Centre showcases the transformation of a redundant building on the Bodmin Community Hospital site into a modern, fully equipped diagnostic facility. By reusing and upgrading an existing structure, the project avoided the need for new-build development and brought valuable NHS estate back into active service, creating a sustainable and efficient solution for expanding local healthcare capacity.
The refurbishment involved stripping out outdated internal layouts and installing new partitions, mechanical systems and electrical infrastructure to accommodate highly technical clinical environments. The redesigned interior now supports CT and MRI suites, dedicated Ultrasound and X-Ray rooms, and additional diagnostic imaging spaces. Delivered in three phases, the works enabled a complete reconfiguration while retaining and enhancing the building’s original shell.
By revitalising the redundant facility, the centre now provides one of only five CT scanners in Cornwall and the first east of Truro, significantly improving access to diagnostic services. The renewed building now hosts a wide range of imaging and supports the Minor Injuries Unit, ensuring residents can receive essential care closer to home and reducing the need for long-distance travel.
