Merseyside HART Ambulance Station

The new ambulance station is located on Belmont Grove, Anfield, Liverpool and replaces what was previously Merseyside Regional Ambulance Service Headquarters building, Elm House. The new station provides a much needed facility for NWAS’ Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), bringing their service provision in line with all current National Ambulance Resilience Unit (NARU) requirements. The new two-storey facility provides a bespoke ambulance garage for the storage and preparation of 11 emergency response vehicles, associated support accommodation, teaching rooms, staff welfare areas, and training yard.

HART is made up of specially trained paramedics who attend incidents that have the potential to be more dangerous, those which require a more specialised set of skills, or incidents that are declared a major incident. HART are required to go through intense training to make sure they are ready and prepared for the worst case scenario, which includes joint training with the
other emergency services. The new training yard assists with the team’s training requirements by offering Safe Working at Height training with the new 11m high training tower, confined space training rig which is adaptable to replicate a variety of emergency scenarios, and CBRN training.

The scheme is a low carbon design that exceeds building regulations requirements with the use of sustainable PV’s, air source heat pumps, and excellent thermal properties, successfully achieving on energy rating A.
