Blackpool Ambulance Hub

Client: Galliford Try

Location: Blackpool

NWAS Hub & Spoke Model – Make Ready Located in Blackpool, the new ambulance station replaces the outdated former facility with a modern, future-ready base for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). This much-needed development responds to the region’s significant health challenges and deprivation levels, providing a high-quality environment that supports staff wellbeing while enhancing emergency response times for the local community.

The scheme features a three-storey accommodation block that delivers contemporary offices, meeting rooms, communal and breakout areas, as well as dedicated storage and preparation spaces for staff. Alongside this, a single-storey appliance bay block houses four fully equipped NWAS Make Ready bays, enabling vehicles to be cleaned, restocked, and prepared efficiently
to achieve faster turnaround times. These bays are supported by self-contained stores, dedicated offices, and welfare facilities.

Sustainability has been embedded throughout the project, with the building exceeding current regulatory standards and incorporating low-carbon technologies such as photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps, and advanced superinsulation. The completed station demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental responsibility while delivering a resilient and highly effective operational base.
