Tamworth Community Fire Station

Bluesky Architects played a key role in delivering ten new fire stations across Staffordshire, including the Tamworth Community Fire Station. Procured under a PFI contract for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, these purpose-built facilities establish a new standard for contemporary fire service infrastructure.

Designed not only as operational bases but also as community assets, the stations incorporate dedicated spaces for local groups and initiatives such as student firefighter programmes. These facilities promote meaningful community engagement and strengthen
the relationship between residents and the fire service. Located on the playing fields of one school and adjacent to another primary school, the project placed strong emphasis on being a considerate neighbour, minimising disruption while fostering positive interaction with young people.

The building also supports integrated service delivery, with Staffordshire Police occupying shared accommodation to enhance collaborative working and improve local service provision “I believe the best way to use the impressive, modern, purpose-built PFI fire buildings is to use them for the benefit of both emergency services where appropriate, providing maximum benefit all round, not least to the public.”
