St Mary’s New Hospital Wing Comes to Life on the Isles of Scilly

We’re proud to have supported the design of the new hospital wing at the new Isles of Scilly Integrated Health and Social Care Facility, a key milestone in enhancing integrated health and care services for one of the UK’s most remote communities.

This project has been developed in collaboration with Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Community 1st.

The design and phasing of the scheme had some unique challenges as it needed to incorporate the refurbishment of the hospital section, whilst remaining operational and accommodate the later phase integration of the new modular care home. Design components also needed to be carefully selected due to the logistics of transportation and shipping the island.

Designed with the needs of residents at its heart, the new wing provides improved inpatient spaces, therapy areas, and modern clinical environments, ensuring care can be delivered closer to home.

Alison Quinn, Bluesky Architects Director said: “Working on this project has been an important reminder of how thoughtful design and strong partnerships can overcome even the most complex challenges.”
